Lovemonk Records presents the new 12” of Casbah 73, “To Be Free”. It’s a maxi single with two A-sides: high-octane Disco music on one side, and on the other, powerful Jazz-Funk with afrolatino touches and an eye on the dance floor. To celebrate the release, Casbah 73 and Señorlobo will be playing good discs all night long to keep everyone dancing.

All through the nineties, revered digger/vinyl dealer Oli Stewart aka Casbah 73 trawled across America leaving no warehouse intact in his quest for the rare and the downright elusive. His knack for discovering, or bringing to light many an unknown classic, meant his reputation with DJs and producers around the globe was legendary.

New decade, new millenium and, once considering his musical education complete, Oli relocated from the UK to Madrid, along with his 15000 strong vinyl collection, in order to set up a studio and redirect his energies into the world of music production. The sound of Casbah 73 was born and his early efforts bore fruit in the shape of two enthusiastically welcomed 12” singles, “The Way I Am” and “Cabo Verde Strut” that found immediate favour on the scene both near and afar, followed by two albums and a string of releases employing the language of soul, jazz, disco, Chicago house and contemporary electronic sounds.

His sets give you a true sense of who Casbah 73 is: a DJ who lives and breathes music, making full use of his encyclopaedic knowledge to combine the new and the old with a signature electicism that comes naturally. Fun, fresh, passionate, always unpredictable and with a style all his own, combined with a strong sense of intuition for the dance floor, forged in a decades long career behind the decks.
